The golden autumn brought cool breezes and welcomed new talents. On the morning of September 6, the Meeting and Freshman Class Meeting for Jointly-Trained Postgraduates of the 2025 Cohort from Shenzhen International Quantum Academy and Southern University of Science and Technology was held in Lecture Hall 518, aiming to help freshmen quickly familiarize themselves with the platform resources of Shenzhen International Quantum Academy and clarify their academic and research goals.

At the beginning of the event, Academician Yu Dapeng, President of Shenzhen International Quantum Academy, delivered a speech. President Yu Dapeng elaborated on the academy's development history, scientific research advantages and talent cultivation achievements. He encouraged the students to uphold the academy's striving spirit of "waiting idly is equivalent to waiting for failure" and bravely shoulder the responsibilities of the times. Meanwhile, combining his insights from watching the military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War on site, he sent a message to the students, urging them to cherish the platform resources of the academy, pour their passion and sweat into their studies and research, keep the sweat of hard work on their brows, the light of hope in their eyes and great dreams in their hearts, and contribute their youth to the development of the country's scientific and technological undertakings.

Subsequently, Research Fellow Liu Song, Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President, delivered a profound opening lecture themed Serving National Strategies, Committing to Scientific and Technological Service for the Country, and Striving to Become the Main Force in the Development of Quantum Technology. Combining the great practical course of the Communist Party of China leading the Chinese nation to achieve national independence, prosperity and strength, he emphasized that on the new journey of achieving high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and building a world-class scientific and technological power, the younger generation is both a witness and a participant, and an important force of the times. He sent a message to the students to keep the country's fundamental interests in mind, serve national strategies, and strive to be pioneers in realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation; to dare to innovate and strive for excellence, commit to scientific and technological service for the country, and strive to be the vanguard in promoting high-level scientific and technological self-reliance; to uphold research integrity, abide by academic norms, and strive to be models of promoting the scientific spirit and leading new social trends; to temper excellent skills, shoulder the responsibilities of the times, and strive to be trailblazers in building a great modern socialist country.

Chen Jilei, Associate Research Fellow and representative of the supervisors, shared his experience and reflections on How to Be a Good Postgraduate based on his own research experience. He suggested that students should cultivate research interests, lay a solid foundation, communicate more with supervisors and senior fellows, and learn to face pressure and maintain a positive attitude. He encouraged everyone to set lofty ideals, keep their feet on the ground, and realize greater value in social practice in the future.

Researchers Xu Yuan and Xue Xiao also shared their insights on the road of scientific research. They pointed out that on the path of scientific research, one should not only have the courage to explore the unknown, but also have the perseverance to settle down and delve into research. They expressed earnest entrustment to the students, encouraging them to make steady progress step by step and persist in exploration during their postgraduate studies.

Zeng Zijian, representative of the freshmen, delivered a speech entitled As Insects Boring Wood, Naturally Forming Patterns, sharing his mental journey from being a physics normal student to a pursuer of quantum research dreams. He quoted "The universe is out there, and we have thoughts" to express his love for scientific exploration, and sent a message to the students to move forward calmly and firmly on the road of scientific research, explore boldly, and ultimately write their own chapters of "natural growth".

Teachers Peng Yuanfang and Han Xudong from the Talent Development Office respectively introduced student affairs, training management, class and league systems, helping freshmen integrate into the study and research environment quickly.

At the same time, to strengthen the mental health education of freshmen, Shenzhen International Quantum Academy invited Professor Ni Shiguang from the Center for Social Work and Mental Health Research of Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School to give a lecture entitled 10 Physical, Mental and Spiritual Health Methods of Positive Psychology.

Under the chairmanship of Teacher Dong Yuanhao, Director of the Party-Mass Office, and Teacher Peng Yuanfang from the Talent Development Office, all freshmen took turns to take the stage to introduce themselves. Later, the class committee of the 2025 postgraduate cohort was elected: Class Monitor Yang Kada (Master's candidate), League Secretary Liu Junjie (Master's candidate), Study Committee Member Lu Boyu (Master's candidate), and Psychological Committee Member Si Xu (Doctoral candidate).

Finally, Research Fellow Chen Tingyong, Vice President, emphasized in his concluding speech that every student is their own best supervisor. He encouraged the students to take the initiative to explore and clarify their directions in scientific research, continuously improve themselves under the guidance of their supervisors, and achieve both scientific research and personal growth.

This meeting not only enhanced the sense of identity and belonging of the 2025 jointly-trained postgraduates from Southern University of Science and Technology to Shenzhen International Quantum Academy, but also pointed out the direction for the students' future academic and research studies.
